Congratulations to Darlene Meleshko, winner of the Edmonton Examiner’s Mother’s Day Sewing Machine Giveaway.   Meleshko received a Singer sewing machine and serger from Edmonton Sewing Centre.   Her husband Garry Meleshko surprised her with the prize on Mother’s Day after entering the contest on her behalf at edmontonexaminer.com.

Who would believe that summer is soon upon us?   The weather has been so unpredictable with the heat, cold, snow and rain which have been seen through May.   Perhaps you have planted your gardens and are now taking some time to think about your next project.   We at Edmonton Sewing Centre are here to give you some ideas.   This month we are focussing on the zipper/piping and cording presser feet,  a clutch bag – pattern free from Kwik Sew  (http://www.kwiksew.com/Projects.cfm)  and, machine of the month, and we are hoping that you might share your sewing tips and projects with everyone.
The cording presser foot and the Kwik Sew patterns that we are featuring are all available at Edmonton Sewing Centre located in North Central Edmonton at 13905 - 127 Street, Edmonton AB, T6V 1A8

Project of the Month
Clutch Purse (on display at Edmonton Sewing Center)
This stylish clutch purse is offered in two sizes and is lined, has piping at outer edge and a snap closure ...  The downloadable pattern includes both small and large clutch purses.  Just as in KWIK SEW's printed pattern, each size of the clutch purse pattern is color coded so the correct cutting lines are quickly and easily identified.  The pattern even includes a printer check to verify that your computer printer didn't alter the pattern size.

Free download includes multi-sized clutch purse pattern and complete instructions. http://www.kwiksew.com/projects/5001.pdf
Feel free to browse through the Kwik Sew Catalogue at Edmonton Sewing Centre. These have become my favorite pattern to work with.

Tips for the Month
Everyone has learned many little tips that they use.   For me:
1) It is always important to have the iron handy to press seams as I go.
2) Again with iron in hand – iron your pattern pieces with a dry iron before cutting.   Cutting is more accurate by doing this.
3) Also keep a magnet near your sewing machine to pick up loose pins and needles. Don't have a magnet - why not try a fridge magnet - works great!

We would like to make this a regular feature in this newsletter and for that we need your help.

Do you have a favourite sewing/serging tip that you would like to share?   We know others would like to hear about it. Email your tips to info@edmontonsewing.com
and watch for them in future newsletters.
