Clutch Assembly

At times it is necessary to remove the hand wheel for oiling and cleaning out thread, lint or any other foreign objects. Proper placement of the lock washer and screw is needed for free release. Caution: if you are doing general maintenance and the clutch system is working properly mark lock washer (#2) in it's present setting with a magic marker before removing. Setting Release of Clutch Nut A. Clutch sleeve (#1) should be free from thread, rust or burrs. Dress down sleeve with crocus cloth then lightly oil. Crocus cloth is included and can be ordered in the Operator Maintenance Kit below. B. Hand wheel should be mounted on sleeve (#1) and be free running. C. Lock nut washer (#2) should be placed on the sleeve with two inner lugs, bent portion faced out. D. Clutch nut should be secured onto sleeve (#1) and small setscrew (#4) tightened. E. Correct spacing (#3) is needed between clutch nut screw (#4) and lock nut washer lug (#2) for proper wheel release to wind bobbin. NOTE: Sometimes it is necessary to change the position of the lock nut washer (#2) by giving it a half turn. It is also recommended to lower the presser bar lifter (down position) to help prevent the machine from running while filling the bobbin.
