Professional Sew-Ware

Q: Do I have to have Professional Sew Ware€ž 2.00a to download designs into my QUANTUM‚® XL-6000? It already has a nine pin port, can’t I just hook it directly to my computer?

A: There is a conversion program that will allow direct linkage from the computer to the sewing machine through a null modem serial cable. Check with you local dealer.

Q: I bought a new computer with Windows‚® XP‚® and now my Professional Sew Ware€ž 1.1 won’t work. Why?

A: A patch is available to correct the compatibility issue with PSW 1.1 & 1.0 and the newest versions of Windows‚®. Click here to download: Windows Compatibility patch for PSW.

Q: I have a 64 MB Smart Media card and I have filled it up. When I put my card in the QUANTUM‚® XL-6000 it won’t read the designs. I can see them in the software so I know they are there. Why can’t I pull them into my machine?

A: Unfortunately the QUANTUM‚® XL-6000 RAM memory is limited. So it is only able to pull up design cards that are approximately 7 pages. This number will vary depending on the size of the designs that are written to the card. If you have written a lot of small designs to a card, you will probably be able to get a lot more designs on the card. Conversely if you’ve written large designs, you will get less to a card.

Q: I’ve been using my Professional Sew Ware€ž 2.00a and now it won’t open. I have everything plugged in correctly but there are no lights on my converter box. Why?

A: It sounds like you have a blown fuse in the box. This can happen through power surges and various other reasons. Take the box to your nearest Singer dealer and have him replace the fuse.

Q: I’ve installed my Professional Sew Ware€ž 2.00a to my computer but it won’t open. I know the port works because I connect my Palm Pilot to it. Can you explain this?

A: Uninstall both programs. Reinstall only the Professional Sew Ware€ž 2.00a and see if it will work. In my experience, the PSW doesn’t want to share a port with another program. Perhaps there is another port that you can use with your Palm Pilot.

Q: My computer only has USB ports. Can you recommend a USB to nine pin cable that will work with the Professional Sew Ware€ž 2.00a?

A: A USB-to-Serial Converter is available. The SINGER‚® part number is 270 10U1-06101.

Q: Where can I download the latest PSW patches and upgrades?

A: You will find all downloads for Professional Sew Ware€ž at the PSW support site (www.psw-support.com)

Q: Will Singer provide free designs to download from their Web site?

A: Singer is currently featuring free design downloads on their website with accompanying project ideas.
